Biking and Running

OK, so I didn't check my blog comments until after my workout today. Kari left me a wonderful note about how I should stay off my feet and take it easy this week. I had a HUGE smile when I read it. NO RUNNING! However, I worked out before reading this.

I had a wonderful lunch with Lael today. It was great to catch up again! Then, I was off to Menards with Greg. After that I went to Target and Cub. Where is the workout? It's been raining almost all day so I had to go indoors. Well, I headed out the door for the gym at 5:30pm. It was SO hard to get out of the house. I lost my motivation. But I made it.

I rode this cool computerized bike there. You can move the handle bars to turn on the course. I you don't, then you could fall off the cliff. I rode hard for 30 minutes. It was tough, but felt good.

Then it was upstairs for a 30 min run. I was moving so slow. But, I made my full 30 minutes!

Now, I'm laying on ice. I see my wonderful chiropractor tomorrow, so that should help. For the rest of the week, I think I'll swim (if the pool is open and free) or do my Pilate's. Maybe Skeeter would like to take a walk?

6 days left until the tri. I still can't believe I'm doing this. I'm just grateful that I get to share the experience with Kari, Kait and Greg!

I think Kari is right, I too have been trying to take it easy this week but it is hard seems like the opposite of what we should be doing right.?.

I thought this would be a good time to tell my experience from 12 years ago!! Wow I am really getting old! Anyway I did two triathlons years ago. I was in amazing shape back them, for one I was a "real athlete" at the time and two I had youth on my side, but I still learned a few things:

1. The swim is nuts!! Lots of people crowded around and crashing into each other (swimming is by far my best event and even I was stressed). Take it easy and move to the outside (so not to be kicked and clawed) as time moves along slowly work your way back to the inside so you won't have to swim twice the distance. If you you do get a mouth full of water, relax! It can really take the wind out of your sails, just slowly work it out and catch your breath and get back into a rhythm.

2. Transition from bike to run...take it easy and sit down to put on your shoes. Bending straight over may seem quicker but when you stand straight back up you may be very light headed and this could be the be end of it...not worth a few extra seconds for beginners like us. Forget about the padded bike shorts for this one. They are hard to get on and will be too hot for the run. You won't even feel the pain until later (and a few drinks will solve that).

3. Pace yourself!! Yeah this is a race but I know I just wanted to finish. This maybe be harder then you think since the excitement will be high but just stay focused on yourself.

That is it for now. Goodnight ladies and I can not wait to see you Sat!!
